Chamonix Mont Blanc is famous for many things, but the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Mer de Glace are two you will want to include in your itinerary when you first visit this world-renonwed mountain town.
Aiguille du Midi
Within twenty minutes the two-stage cable car takes you from the centre of town to the Aiguille du Midi at 3,842m, where you will have a clear view of Mont Blanc and a 360° view of the French, Swiss and Italian Alps from the terraces.
Since 2013, visitors have been able to "Step into the void", via a glass box with stunning views and a 1,000m precipice to the mountains below.
Mer de Glace
Your guide will take you through the exhibiton areas of this unique place, where you will discover the history of mountaineering and the conquest of the surrounding peaks. The Montenvers rack railway starts from Chamonix town and in 20 minutes reaches the Mer de Glace (1,913 m), France’s largest glacier at 7km long, and at least 200m thick in places.
This historic site marked the start of Alpine tourism in the 19th century and offers a panoramic view of famous peaks such as Les Drus and Les Grandes Jorasses. The tour of the “Grotte de glace” (Ice Cave) takes visitors into the very heart of the glacier. Re-sculpted every year, it describes the life of mountain people in the early 19th century.
In Additon you can venture onto the glacial ice with a mountain guide for bespoke crevasse rescue team building activities. Develop trust and communication with your colleagues in a unique and inspiring way.
