Here at Haute Pursuit, being a corprorate events business we are really happy when someone else is organising the event and we get to attend; and that is exactly what a lot of our team will be doing this week (22nd to 30th July 2017) as the Cosmo Jazz Festival comes to Chamonix for it's eighth edition.
Over the years this event has grown to be one of the most popular summer events in the area with free concerts set to the most magnifcent mountain back drops - at the foot of a glacier, in a natural amphitheatre at the base of a rock face or in some of the Alpine meadows on the Swiss border. But the music doesn't stop there as there are musical events throughout the Chamonix valley in the evenings giving everyone the opportunity to join in.
The variety of the artists at Cosmo Jazz Festival has grown over the years to include something for everyone. From the electronic dance music of D.I.V.A to the smooth funk of Anthony Joseph inspired by African culture. Cosmo Jazz is absolutely not one size fits all, artists are encouraged to bring their best diverse music. For example Moon Hooch, a modern contemporary Jazz group, will be performing all of its best genres including the influences of hip-hop and dubstep. Mathias Duplessy et les Violons du Monde are an internationally diverse group with instruments from all over the world, including central Asia, China and Eastern Europe.
Not only is this free event fun for all ages and cultures, the organisers also recognise the importance of being sustainable. Cosmo Jazz Festival has committed to a sustainability mandate that includes using only recycled materials for all its printed media; preserving the natural envrionment of the Chamonix valley; the reduction and recovery of waste materials; continued accessability for all by maintaining a free admission policy; free or reduced-cost public transport to all festival sites as well as promoting car sharing, and finally support for solidarity initiatives.
Live music events like Cosmo Jazz Festival are just one of the reasons Chamonix attracts visitors from near and far. In addition to the festival, local restaurants and bars also have live music events throughout the week, ensuring the entire Chamonix valley comes alive to celebrate music together.
