On the longest day of the summer, 21st June 2016, global sports and running brand Asics and its competitors managed to beat the sun around the Chamonix valley once more!
For the third year in a row, Haute Pursuit was chosen as the local events and logistics partner to assist in making this phenomenal event a success.
Prior to the big day, the corporate and sporting events team at Haute Pursuit had been busy for months with planning for the event in partnership with Asics’s in-house team. In the weeks and days prior to the event our team worked all the hours required to ensure everything was in place to support the main event and ancillary activities taking place.
Apart from ensuring all the competitors, Asics staff, media and VIPs travelled on time and in comfort from Geneva airport to Chamonix, our corporate and sporting events team had responsibility for branding throughout Chamonix town, in the partner hotels and the other venues being used for the various associated corporate events.
The first of the supporting events was a welcome dinner for all the competitors, media, VIPs and Asics staff, which took place at La Cabane restaurant, a charming venue near the Chamonix golf course in Les Praz. Our team spent the day at the venue, dressing the room and setting up external displays and branding.
We are particularly proud of how the venue looked when we had finished; Asics corporate branding prominently positioned outside the venue; pictures of athletes using the Asics products in the stunning scenery of the Chamonix valley were hung on the walls inside the restaurant; an Asics branded cowbell was presented to all attendees on their dinner place settings as a gift; artistic displays of Asics running shoes were set up outside the venue as well as within the restaurant itself.
Alongside making the venue look special for all the guests, we had to carefully orchestrate the overhead spectacle of a paraglider using a branded wing with the arrival of all the guests to the welcome drinks reception - no mean feat but delivered with precision timing!
In addition to the welcome dinner we worked in partnership with Asics to set up and manage a product test event, the day before the race, giving all invited media the opportunity to product test Asics trail running shoes, clothing and back pack accessories. All media were taken to the mid station of Le Brevent and hosted at La Bergerie restaurant. From there they were taken on guided trail runs led by keen mountain runners and qualified mountain guides, accompanied by Asics product staff to give the lowdown on the latest innovations within their product ranges.
Finally to race day! When you race against the mid-summer sun, you have to get an early start! All of the competitors left the start line as day broke on the Chamonix valley knowing they had a mere fifteen or so hours to complete 140km and get back to Chamonix before the sun set on the longest day of the year! Our very own Monica Delevaux Huszcz was the public announcer for the day keeping everyone informed of the progress of the runners as they raced around the Chamonix Mont Blanc region.
And whilst the race was on, the work continued for our events team as they set up branding and displays in the centre of town for the arrival of the runners that evening, which included a giant TV screen to show progress of the competitors as well as dressing the venue for the finishers’ party at local restaurant, La Monchu.
Asics Beat the Sun has taken place in Chamonix for three years. This year saw more than 30,000 registrations from around the world. 23 different nationalities participated in the event, with the most diverse team being Africa, with four different nationalities – South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Algeria.
